What, you exclaim?! Has Graham lost his mind or caved to group think, you ask! No, he is just reflecting on the simple and sure foundation of all good government. Here it is:
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12)
Parents are the original, God ordained “governing officials” of the human race. Dads wielding authority with love and wisdom as heads of their households instill character in their children. The loving, nurturing Moms at their sides rule the world by gently rocking cradles containing the future. Don’t like that affirmation of distinct male and female roles and characteristics? Tough. Retreat to your safe space or cogently present your rebuttal.
When parents are derelict or removed by tragedy it’s sad enough; thankfully in many such cases grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and others take their place. In this fallen world, even the best of societies will have children who suffer by having no one in loco parentis. Ultimately, human sin is to blame for all the evil in the world.
But what happens when a society obliterates the countenances of a Mom and a Dad diligently invested in their children? What happens when in their stead faceless, uncaring bureaucratic programs foster the normalcy of unwed women begetting welfare babies? What happens when the sires of those babies are better “equipped’ to be dead beat experts in abandonment? What is the result when a society dabbles in social engineering, with monumental hubris and blind conceit imagining that Moms and Dads can be marginalized or replaced?
The answers are all too evident in the chaos and moral turpitude now rampant in state run schools and elsewhere. Apart from forsaking this folly and returning to strong parental government, our national descent into miserable barbarism will only accelerate.
What do the recent spate of school shooters have in common? They are fatherless.
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-3)
